Lots going on around here....

Well it's been forever since I've written. Here are some photos of Sarah and Anna's birthdays last July. They shared a cake again and had a great party with the family. Another big adventure was the day in August that the huge tree branch fell across our driveway. Apparently it had been rotting on the inside. We were all in the house at the time, but Josh had his bedroom window open and heard a cracking noise. He looked out of his window just in time to see it fall crashing to the ground.

A quick update on the kids:

Josh is a senior, taking 4 online classes (physics, gov't and econ, material logic and a writing/lit. class) plus 2 more on his own, and is very busy. I mean, really. He does homework all day Saturday and in the evenings. We probably picked out too many hard classes for him, but what can we do now? They're paid for, so he has to keep them. We are thankful for his sense of humor in it all. He manages to find some time to play guitar and he is starting violin.

Laura is a sophomore, and planned her own curriculum this year. Highlights are translating parts of the Vulgate (the Latin Bible), studying the ancient Greeks and Romans, reading the Iliad and the Odyssey, listening to lectures about how Greek culture has influenced modern society, traditional logic, astonomy, geometry, advanced comp. (online) and analyzing orchestral pieces. We are utilizing materials from The Teaching Company heavily for her this year. Plus she still plays piano and organ, cleans the church, and is attempting to play the flute and violin.

Coretta (12) and Isaac (10) are learning together this year. We are notebooking, which means they write at least a paragraph every day and keep it in a 3-ring binder. They print off cool designed paper from a notebooking website so there is room at the bottom to draw a picture. Our goal is that they will greatly improve their writing this year. They are both still playing the piano and Coretta is improving in her singing.

Eli (6), Sarah (4) and Anna (2) are full of fun and energy. Eli can read beginning phonics books and Sarah is close behind. The girls dance around and Anna gets into all the trouble she can.

We are thankful that we are all in good health and God is guiding us through the busy-ness of life in the parish and with a big family. Take care!

Hi Mary! So nice to hear from you! You have created a beautiful blog for your family. Fun to look at all the pictures. If you could email me I can share more about the cough situation and Mary's plans. I seem to have lost your email.

God Bless-Kathleen

Your kids and you as parents sound amazing, Mary! Kudos to all of you! I think it is great you are homeschooling your children, too. Did you have a teaching degree? Whether you do or not, you're certainly a great teacher to be plugging away in all those courses with your children and mentoring them the way you do! My heart goes out to Josh... tell him to have no doubt but that the courses are building him into the man God desires Him to be. I'm so very proud of all of you and so glad we've remained friends after so many years have passed! I continue to keep you all in prayers now and then, too.
Blessings for a joyful Christmas.
